This weekend's MTV Movie Awards event was Twilight central. A lot of the cast was present, a new clip was debuted, and, oh, the film and its actors won every award for which they were nominated.

Deja vu? Sort of. Last year, an impressive amount of Twilight stars were present at the event, bringing in the very first trailer from The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and snatching up all the possible awards (thanks to your devoted voting habits). Only, last year, the MTV Movie Awards got an impressive ratings boost thanks to Twilight and not this time.

The L.A. Times reports on the fact that ratings for this year's event weren't increased by the incorporation of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and the cast of The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

On the main channel, viewership was off by a lot, dropping from 5.3 million to 4.6 million. However, with the addition of sister station VH1 to the simulcast lineup along with MTV2, total viewership was down only slightly from 5.9 million to 5.8 million. MTV reports that total viewership (i.e., anyone tuning in for a minute or more) totaled 16.4 million. The kudocast faced fierce competition with ABC airing Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

Think the promise of a clip rather than a trailer is what changed the trend?

Still, the impact of Twilight - particularly, The Twilight Saga: New Moon's "Best Movie" win - was felt the next morning as publication after publication talked about the bleeping out deficiency of the censors with Peter Facinelli's acceptance speech.

Facinelli gave a statement on the issue to Entertainment Weekly, saying "My acceptance speech was meant as a satirical commentary to poke fun at the record breaking number of f-bombs dropped during the show. Secretly, I hope that David Mamet tuned in last night in case he’s prepping a revival of Glengarry Glen Ross."

Most Twilight fans seemed pretty unbothered by the slip.

The Twilight Saga and cast also took home "Best Female Performance" (Kristen Stewart), "Best Male Performance" (Robert Pattinson), "Global Superstar" (Robert Pattinson), "Best Breakout Star" (Anna Kendrick for Up In The Air), and "Best Kiss" (Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in New Moon).
