| Subject: 'Vampire Diaries' Season 2: Will Jeremy Be A Vampire? 'He's Dead Inside, No Matter What' Tue Aug 03, 2010 1:46 pm | |
| Attention, "Vampire Diaries" fans: Only another 39 days until you can let out that breath you've been holding ever since you saw Jeremy Gilbert sprawled lifelessly across his bed in "The Vampire Diaries" season 1 finale. You'll remember, of course, that the young Mr. Gilbert had just chased a vial of vampire blood with a big bottle o' pills, and that if a human dies with vampire blood in his system, he'll turn into a vamp himself.
According to executive producer and writer Kevin Williamson (who we chatted with during Comic-Con), once the second season premieres, we won't have to wait very long to learn Jeremy's fate. We'll find out what happened "in the first act of the very first scene." All together now: Phew.
But don't expect any more of Jer's ongoing issues to be resolved so quickly. "Jeremy, he is pushed and pushed around emotionally," said Steven R. McQueen, who plays Jeremy. "He's lost his parents, he lost his first love, and all of a sudden feels like an outsider, feels like someone who doesn't belong. He meets a girl [Anna] who is a monster and can relate in that sense, and builds a form of love from that.
"He loses her, he loses his connection with life, humanity, and everything," Steven continued. "So I feel like at this point, whether he lives or dies emotionally, he's not wearing his heart on his sleeves anymore. He sees things colder and more calculated and sees the world for what it is, and I don't think is as afraid to push back."
Kevin concurred: "He is dead inside, no matter what. Hes emotionally been through the ringer and were going to have to sort of watch him come to the other side."
Part of Jeremy's journey will be finding the right person to guide him through this tumultuous time in his life. "[Jeremy's] looking for father figures, too," Steven said. "Hes looking for guidance from everybody and I feel like when he doesn't have the guidance he strikes out."
Apparently some of that guidance will come from a strange source: Damon. "There's an unlikely relationship, at least certainly beginning, that builds between him and Damon because he has to figure out what side he stands on," said Kevin. "Is he OK with vampires? Because the Gilbert family was against vampires. So is he going to live up to his family legacy? Or is he going to let his memory of Vicki, and his memory of Anna and what he knows to be good about vampires, prevail?"
We feel it's necessary to give KevWill major props here for keeping that entire thought so vague so that we have no idea if those statements about vampires means Jeremy will be one or not (we're leaning toward not)!
Do you hope Jeremy turns into a vampire or stays human? What do you think about him becoming chummier with Damon?

| I think it would be nice having him relating to Damon, who would surely be annoyed by him lol | |
