Birthdate: January 9, 1989
Birth place: Sofia, Bulgaria
Nina Dobrev was born in Bulgaria but her parents moved the family to Toronto, Canada, when she was just a young child. Growing up in such a big city, Nina was greatly influence by art, dance, theatre and music. She took a real interest in acting and attended Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts where she was able to focus on her artistic skills. She was a model and did small commercial and movie jobs before making her big break on TV.
The Degrassi Years
In 2006, Nina joined the cast of Degrassi: The Next Generation. She played the role of Mia, a teenage mother and model who dates a variety of different characters from the high school. The show was shot in Nina’s hometown of Toronto, so she was able to identify with the character and the content of the show. She stayed with the show for three seasons, before moving on to a more challenging role.
The Vampire Diaries
Nina currently plays a dual character (the charming Elena and mysterious Katherine) on the hit TV show, The Vampire Diaries. She quickly developed a huge fan base as viewers saw the talent she had in playing two characters with such different personalities. Like many fans of the show, Nina’s main character Elena has difficulty choosing between two sexy Vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon. An episode on the second season of the show will bridge the gap between Nina’s onscreen and offscreen life, with the episode taking place in Bulgaria as it shows the history of Katherine.
