Sam Rami is out and Tobey Maguire is out and the whole Spider-Man franchise is getting a reboot. So, it's no surprise that rumors are swirling about who might be picked to play Peter Parker in the new Spider-Man.
A whole lot of the buzz has been suggesting that ultra-hot Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson might be up for the part. But IESB ran down those rumors and is now saying "with absolute certainty" that Pattinson is not in the running. Besides, the reboot is expected to take our hero back to high school, and at 23 Pattinson is viewed as a bit "too old" for that role.
A much stronger possibility is fellow Twilight actor Taylor Lautner. At 17, he is the right age, and he certainly is buff enough for the role. Better still, IESB reports that he has, in fact, had a meeting with Spider-Man producers. The problem, of course, is that we have absolutely no idea what they were talking about. There are other roles he could play, and with a number of potential sequels in mind, there is good reason for thinking that the studio might instead want to cast a relative unknown in the role.
As for out-of-work Spider-Man Maguire, reports keep circulating that he has been tapped to put some hair on his toes and play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. However, The One Ring, the definitive source on all things hobbit, has checked with its sources and now says there is absolutely "no truth" to those rumors.
