Before Kristin Stewart was cast as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga films based on the popular book series by Stephenie Meyer, Kristen Stewart had already made a pretty good name for herself in Hollywood by starring in several indie films and TV movies including the Lifetime movie Speak (2005) opposite Steve Zahn, a film based on Laurie Halse Andersen's book. She also starred in In The Land of Women (2007) which co-starred Adam Brody (The O.C.) and Meg Ryan. She even starred in the Academy Award nominated film Into The Wild (2007). Then after many years of small roles in small films, Twilight hit the silver screen in 2008 and with it came fame for not only Stewart but also her co-stars Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed,
Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Faccinnelli, and who could forget Robert Pattinson...although if you ask me he's utterly forgettable. I liked him better when he met his untimely demise as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire.
But since Twilight fever hasn't broken around the world yet you may be wondering why I'm taking the time to tell you about Stewart's earlier work. And the answer is that according to E! Hollywood 411 Stewart is returning to roots with another indie film The Yellow Handkerchief co-starring William Hurt and Mario Bello (The Jane Austen Book Club). The E entertainment news show caught up with Kristen at the red carpet premiere for the which opens in select cities this coming Friday (February 26). Even though she was doing press for The Yellow Handkerchief she was inevitable asked about Eclipse, the next installment of the Twilight franchise which hits theaters this spring. If you've read the Twilight series you already know what happens but Stewart was understandably quite eager to turn the discussion back to her current film. And let's not forget that she is constantly deflecting rumors that she's dating Pattinson. Kristen Stewart is a talented young actress. She had talent before Twilight amplified her stardom and she will have talent after Twilight comes to an end...Even if the article in Fandango's newsletter last week is true and the horrible final installment of Twilight otherwise known as Breaking Dawn is made into not only one...but two awful films, which is still a question because none of the stars are under contract for a fifth film. If Summit Entertainment does decide to make a fifth film, they will do so at a high price for Stewart, Lautner, and Pattinson since they aren't virtually unknown actors anymore. And yes, when the Twilight spell breaks and the world forgets who Robert Pattinson is...and they will trust me. Even if Kristen Stewart's stardom never reaches Twilight heights again, her name will still be remembered and audiences will see her in many great films in the future.
